Ask the average American if they’re experiencing stress, and they’ll tell you “yes.” Ask them what they’re stressed about, and they’ll likely respond by telling you it has something to do with money. That’s because money-related issues, according to the American Psychological Association’s (APA) 2022 Stress in America Survey, is one of the leading causes of stress in America. However, according to a leading psychologist and best-selling author, Olivia Mellan:
“For most of us, money is never just money”. In her self-help book about reducing financial stress, she writes; “It [Money] can also represent love, power, happiness, security, self-esteem, and so much more. As a result, we have intense Feelings about money – feelings we often hide from – which prevent us from dealing with it productively, and which make it a primary source of anxiety and conflict in our lives and Relationships.” (Mellan, Money Harmony, 1994)
Developing positive feelings about money-related issues begins with a self-awareness of your relational strengths and weaknesses to money. In other words, you need to learn to identify with and articulate your money personality. To help you do this, we’ve developed MoolatudeTM, a proprietary tool on our app for determining your money personality.
Using Moolatude is quick and easy. First, download our app from the Google Play or Apple app stores and register. Search for: MoneyAdvice@Work. Then, from the home tab, click the silhouette in the upper right corner. After taking the assessment, you will also be able to build a custom avatar to represent yourself on our app.
Now that you’ve identified your money personality, the next step is working with a financial planner to understand how to manage your money in accordance with your personality. You can schedule a session right from the home tab of the app, or by calling 866-232-6457.
